1. TOEFL iBT: ETS or Educational Testing Service introduced this test, and it is currently the most widely accepted language test in most of the business schools and universities in the United States, Europe, and many other western countries. The TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test) is accepted in those countries where it is difficult to access the internet. The TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Program) is similar to the TOEFL PBT in terms of content. Still, it is administered to students who are applying to institutions and universities for higher studies and not MBA in particular. The TOEFL CBT exam (Computer-Based Test) is no longer administered.
The TOEFL iBT contains four sections which are, Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. 2. TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): This test is similar and closely related to the TOEFL test. Specifically, it is designed for those candidates who apply to English-speaking companies. As this test focuses on business, it is now being included as part of the testing procedure in most of the B-schools, including HEC Paris and ESMT Berlin. This test scores out of 990. It consists of a 2-hour paper-pencil-based listening and reading test.
3. CAE, CPE, FCE, and BEC: these tests are introduced by the Cambridge Language Assessment. The Cambridge Advanced English (CAE), Cambridge Proficiency English (CPE), First Certificate English (FCE), Business English Certificate (BEC) Higher, and BEC Vantage are the exams that are accepted as English proficiency proof.
4. PTE Academic and PTE General: PTE refers to the Pearson Test of English, and it includes Academic and PTE General assessment for listening, reading, speaking, and comprehension. This is a 3-hour duration test.
5. Michigan ECCE and Michigan ECPE: ECCE (Examination for the Certificate of Competency in English) and ECPE (Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English) is taken by CaMLA (Cambridge Michigan Language Assessments). It is not widely accepted but recognized in a few countries, including Greece, Brazil, and Colombia. The duration of this test is 2 hours and 45 minutes. 6. Trinity’s ISE: The Integrated Skills in English (ISE) exam was introduced by Trinity College, situated in London. Some MBA programs might accept this test score. This taste contains two sections, namely reading and writing in the first section. The writing section is given 2 hours duration, and the second section includes speaking and listening.
