The Graduate Record Examinations or GRE is a systematic test which is almost a necessity now for taking admission in any graduate school abroad. However getting a good GRE score is not really very easy. There are some steps you should definitely follow:
1. Find out your own position: There is no point jumping into something blankly. It is very important to find out where you stand. Thus before attending a preparation programme or practicing volumes of question, definitely take a full length mock test. Taking the full length mock test has a lot of advantages, the main ones being, you will know your weakness in a particular topic and you will know exactly what to focus on. Also you will get the actual taste of GRE. There are a number of GRE Consultants nowadays where you can take the full length mock test, the best option being IMFS. The test will consist of three sections: Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA), Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. It will help you find out your position in the particular challenge you are about to take. After checking the gre score set targets within the specific time limit that you have. This must be your first step.
2. Passion for Words: While you might think you are already fluent in English so the verbal section will not be a problem, trust me it is not that way. The verbal ability test consists of more than 50% vocabulary, which includes text completion and sentence equivalence questions. Now you must be wondering what is so difficult about these questions? That is because the words that they test are the ones you rarely come across in life and another problem is the options that they give tend to be very close to each other, which can make you confused. Thus building your vocabulary is very important for getting a good GRE score. It is not that you just simply learn every word, you also need to be confident about how and where to use them in a right manner. Cramming up a few words right before the exams will definitely not help.
3. Make yourself used to the type: Practicing a lot of vocabulary and reading comprehension is indeed necessary, but it is not enough. You need to know the exact type that is given in GRE exams and you need to make yourself used to it. For which it would be better if you could join the IMFS institute for GRE coaching to study abroad, as they not only provide you with a lot of study materials, but also guide you throughout the entire process.
4. Practice Analyze Review: Practice a lot a lot and a lot! But that‘s not it. Take a set of questions suppose say 20 questions and keep a time limit of 30 minutes. Set questions from every topic and of every level from easy to hard. Solve the questions. Check the answers , now analyze the answers. If any answer is wrong find out why is it wrong. If your answer is correct but you had just guessed it find out why were the others not correct. If your answer is wrong because you were confused between two options which were similar, find out that minute difference between the two. Then review the entire process, find the area you need to work harder on, and continue practicing again. If it is not possible for you to do so at home, you can join classes for GRE coaching to study abroad, as they observe your weakness and your strength and train you accordingly.
5. Manage stress: The biggest thing that can affect your examination is stress. No matter how much you practice always remember if you are stressed once, your exam is bound to spoil. If you are stuck in some question, do-not get frustrated and do not waste time thinking about that question, rather proceed to the next ones. The point is it is not completely possible to avoid stress, but you need to be intelligent enough to handle your stress properly.
Now that you know the steps to get a good score, contact the GRE consultants near you, and start preparing!
